	       Open PB/P87. S read aloud the title , ask: What is the problem with the ozone layer? .. a hole in the ozone......or.......There is a decrease in ozone in the earth’s atmosphere.
•       Ask: What is the cause of this hole? What is the cause of this decrease? fringes, air-conditioners, plastic foam and aerosol sprays.
•       How many paragraphs are there in the passage on page 87? 5
•       S read aloud the 1st sentence of para #1, ask: What do you thing this para about? the earth’s atmosphere, or the layers in the earth’s atmosphere.
•       Do the previous step with the other 5 para, e.g.,.:
Þ   para 2: a decrease in ozone in the stratosphere.
Þ   para 3: dangers of this decrease.
Þ   para 4: one cause of this decrease.
Þ   para 5: the answer to the problem of this decrease.
•       Write these 3 Q’s on the board:
  1.  Why is the ozone layer important? L:7-12, Because it protect the earth’s surface from ultraviolet rays.
  2.  What are CFCs used for? L:43-47, For cooling in fringes and air-conditioners, for making plastic foam, and in aerosol sprays.
  3.  Has anyone tried to solve the problem? L:45-56, Yes. A group of countries agreed to produce fewer CFCs.
•       S read aloud the Q’s,  S open PB/88, (4m) to find the answers and the lines.

•       I’ll read the passage but S ‘ll complete reading the sentences, S underline words they don’t know. I’ll introduce these words, the others ‘ll be in the Word Study:

     What is happening to the ozone layer above populated regions of the earth? L:26-28. it become lees.
     What are the ultraviolet rays thought to case? L:32-33, eye disease
     What is the answer to the problem of the decreasing ozone layer? L:51-53, to produce fewer CFCs
