•   Open PB/P 26, S read the title and the subheadings.
   •   S have 10 seconds to find out the which are written in italic (explain in Arabic what does italic mean).
   •   The words are: 
 1. carbohydrates: L: 6
 2. fats L
 3. carbohydrates: L:7
 4. fats: 9
   •   Say: you have 10 seconds to look for more words that are written differently, in italics. In the second and third sections.
   •   Ask: How many calories does a piece of Arab bread contain? quickly find a number and put your hand up. S answer ( 165 , line 18 ) 
   •   Write these three sentences with missing ( red ) words on the board:
 
  5.  Most of our energy comes from two ..substances.................. in our food.
  6.  ...Carbohydrates.............. and ............fats..................have a lot of calories.
  7.  Junk food contains lots of ...............carbohydrates...............and ......fats....
   •   S look at the 3 sentences, say: you have ( 5 m ) to read the passage silently and find the words that go with these 3 sentences. 
   •   Read the passage again (4m), underline any words that you do not know.
   •   After (4m) the new voc will be: 
  1.  carbohydrates: something in food like potatoes, bread, rice, sugar.
  2.  cereal: a kind of food: examples given are, bread rice sugar.
  3.  spoonful:  A spoonful of oil is enough to fill a spoon: note there is only one "l" in the word

   •   We will introduce the first 3 words. s read the sentences that contain those words. S try to give the meaning.
   •   Ask S these Q's: 
  Þ  What substances give the human body energy? Carbohydrates and fats. L: 5-7
  Þ  Which has more calories - one egg or one spoonful of cooking oil? one spoonful of oil has more calories
  Þ  How many calories do you have if you weigh 70 kilos? L: 20-21: 2,800 calories [ 70 X 40 ]
  Þ  Why will you become fat if you eat too much junk food? (L: 32-33) Because junk food contains lots of carbohydrates and fats.
